Scranton Primary Healthcare Center is a multi-site Federally Qualified Healthcare Center located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Our center opened its doors on December 12, 1978 because of our founders’ Frances Hazucha and Martha McAndrew attempts to find medical attention for four low-income people with serious health conditions. The initial efforts of these members of a local religious community have resulted in over a million patient visits to Center providers since we opened.
Our Center has grown over the past 44 years to provide services in family & internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, a prenatal clinic, infectious disease clinic, behavioral health and social services including an outreach to the area’s homeless population. In September 2003, we opened a state of the art dental clinic that includes dentists, hygienists, expanded function dental assistants.
Our Center’s service area includes the City of Scranton and greater Lackawanna County.
Our target population is primarily 0composed of Lackawanna County residents, many of whom are the victims of numerous health disparities. The under-served specifically make up our special target population, most of whom are uninsured, underinsured, mentally and/or physically challenged. The Center attracts underserved users from the entire county, especially from the HPSAs in northern Lackawanna County as well as from the HPSAs in Monroe County southeast of Lackawanna County. The Center had 16,001 total users who generated 49,020 visits in 2021.
Our mission is to provide quality primary medical, dental & behavioral care at a reasonable cost to all persons in our community, including those who are under-insured and uninsured.
Scranton Primary Healthcare Center will continue to expand and respond to the evolving trends and needs of our target population and service area.
